Infinity Dress

I've been wanting to make myself an infinity dress for a while, and after seeing one online that was a beautiful shade of coral I just couldn't stand it anymore. The dress was out of my budget, so I looked around for some fabric that was a similar color. I found some, and saved myself quite a chunk of change. It's been sitting around for a while now, waiting to be made, and yesterday after suffering yet another massive mental block (I just can't manage to get started on any of these four research papers), I decided to take a brief break for just long enough to make a dress. Not that I don't find analyzing textbook content for books designed to be used for classes of heritage speakers of spanish interesting, or the economic state of Brazil and it's various renewable energy sources for that matter, but I just can't seem to figure out where to start on any of these things. The weather has been absolutely lovely the last few days as well, which doesn't make sitting in front of the computer any more of an appealing prospect. My mental stresses have yielded a very pretty and extremely comfortable new dress though. I will be wearing this a great deal this summer, and still have enough fabric left to make another top or so. Without further ado, here is my new coral infinity dress (with my most recent tie variation. I'm particularly fond of this one I think).

And now back to paper writing....

  10. I just stumbled across your blog and was met by this beautiful dress. The way you've tied it, and the colour = stunning! I also have wanted to purchase one before but was put off by the price. You've inspired me to make. May I ask what the pattern is?

  11. I felt the same way for a while, and finally decided to just make one myself. I didn't really have a pattern, but found several helpful tutorials online when I searched for "infinity dress pattern". This is the one I found most instructive.

  12. Dear Evie,

I have just stumbled on your blog by sheer chance and am intrigued. I realize that it is a record of what you are wearing but I wonder if you would be willing to post on a few issues:
    1. how did you learn to sew? and sew so well? as someone just trying to teach herself as an adult, I am in awe
    2. This is not meant to be as invasive as it may sound, but what are your measurements and height? I ask because I suspect I am the same size and it is incredibly helpful to see the images of you in such a wide variety of different styles of clothes and the very different effect they give. In some clothes (for example the gorgeous blue wool dress with the V in the back with the turtle pin) the style of dress does absolute wonders for the figure.
    Many thanks

    1. Hello Atlantic! I would be happy to explain a bit about my sewing history. I have a project finished up that I will be sharing soon, and will also do a bit of a sewing bio post for you and anyone else who is interested. As far as my size goes, I am about 5 foot 4 inches, and my (current) measurements (I have a boyfriend who cooks and things have changed a bit in the past six months) are: Bust - 36, Waist - 27.5, Hips - 38. The blue dress is very structured and I do wear a waist cincher under it to achieve that more extreme silhouette. Happy sewing to you!
